Once you are happy that we have answered all your questions and have accepted our quote, we will arrange a convenient appointment for our architect to visit you. In this period, it is a good idea (if you haven't already done so) to speak to your neighbours about your loft extension and the progress of works. You will need written consent from your immediate neighbours that they are OK for you to proceed.

The architect will take measurements and observations of your home and loft and then prepare detailed plans for you to discuss with our consultant. This usually takes two to three weeks. Once you have approved the plans, we will apply all the structural calculations/specifications and submit them to your Local Authority for approval. This stage takes between four and six weeks if planning permission is not required and up to twelve weeks if it is. Most first time extensions to houses do not require planning permission for up to 40-50 cubic metres (average-sized extension). Please note, this may not apply if your home is either; in a conservation area, listed or at the junction of two public highways. Flats require planning permission. This is a good time to completely clear the loft of those items you have been hoarding over the years! We would ideally like to begin construction with a completely clear loft space, but if you have difficulty with this, we can help you with removal and arrange skips for unwanted items nearer the project start date.
